What do I need to know about NBA California Christian Home?

You should ask lots of questions before choosing a retirement home. Here is what you should know about NBA California Christian Home.

Q:     How much does NBA California Christian Home cost?
A:     The Home is very cost-competitive when compared to other retirement facilities of its kind. The fact that you pay no large up-front fee makes NBA California Christian Home an even better value.

Q:     When you move in, do you have to turn all of your assets over to NBA California Christian Home?
A:     No major investment of assets is required.

Q:     Are there any activities at the Home?
A:     Actually, many residents have been known to happily complain that there are too many activities to choose from: Bible study, educational and recreational activities, off-campus excursions to the theater and the beach.

Q:     Is the NBA California Christian Home a low-income retirement community?
A:     The Home is not a HUD or low-income subsidized facility. Currently, we do not accept persons on SSI. There are some Medi-Cal admissions into our Skilled Nursing Center when Medi-Cal beds are available.

Q:     Are there any age restrictions on when you can move in?
A:     Residents must be 60 years of age or older. There is no upper age limit.

Q:     Can you move to NBA California Christian Home if you use a canes, walker or wheelchair?
A:     Our residents may use canes, walkers or wheelchairs in many living areas.

Q:     Does the Home only accept members of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ?
A:     While many of our residents are Christian Church members, we currently have more than 17 different denominations represented at the Home.

Q:     Can residents have their own automobiles at the Home?
A:     Yes, many of our residents have their own cars. For those who don't, we offer transportation to medical and dental appointments within a six-mile radius, and weekly grocery shopping trips.

Q:     Can I bring my own furniture?
A:     Yes, all apartments are unfurnished. Efficiency kitchens are provided in Rose Manor and all garden apartments.

Q:     What meals are included?
A:     In Rose Manor and garden apartments two meals per day, in assisted living and care center, three meals per day are provided.

Q:     Can I have my own telephone?
A:     Yes, residents have their own private phones, which do not go through the central switchboard.

Q:     Do I need to sign in and out every time I leave the building?
A:     No, we do not have a sign-out procedure. Because we are a licensed retirement facility (RCFE) we would like to know when you are gone from the premises should we need to get in touch with you.

Q:     Can I keep my HMO or personal doctor?
A:     The Home has a medical director who is available in case of an emergency. However, all residents use their own personal physician whether they have Medicare or an HMO.

Q:     Must applicants qualify financially every year, or be required to leave?
A:     Applicants are required to qualify only one time: upon admittance. An annual financial update is required.

Q:     Will the Home ask you to leave if you run out of funds?
A:     Our contract states that your residence is a month-to-month agreement. However, the financial qualification process and the availability of the Fellowship of John and other benevolent care funds have never made it necessary to ask a resident to leave because of an inability to pay.

Q:     Do you have cable?
A:     Yes, it's included in the services provided.
Q:     Do you have computer access?
A:     Yes, we also provide a computer station for our residents.
